Iraq Poll Results
ABC News’ recent Iraqi public opinion poll shows improved attitudes across the board. Except for last fall, ABC has conducted this poll roughly every six months since 2004.
Many would find the result of this latest poll release remarkable. Those who were there during the last years would not be surprised.
Some excerpts:
Those who expect things to improve in Iraq overall during the next twelve months has climbed from 23% in August 2007 to 46% in February 2008 to 60% in February 2009. Among Sunnis the climb has been from the single digits to 46%.
Economic and social issues have replaced security as the greatest concern, with only one-in-five rating security as the biggest problem, where before the percentage was nearly half.
Confidence in government has improved to the point where 59% of Iraqis rate their local governments “very good” or “quite good.”
