    This won’t go over well

Byline: bob | Category: Race, 2008 Presidential Election | Posted at: 3:59 pm

How do you think Detroit’s largely black population is going to react when they go to the polls tomorrow and learn that

    (a) Hillary Clinton is on the ballot

    (b) Barack Obama is not on the ballot

    (c) Write-in votes are not counted?

If the Clintons think they have a potential race problem brewing in the Democratic Party now, they haven’t seen anything yet.

    ALSO:

Jim Geraghty reports that the Hillary campaign is worried about the embarrassement that could come from Hillary losing tomorrow’s Michigan vote. I think she should be more worried about the racial blowback she would face if she “wins”.

I think that depends on whether the campaign tries to spin Michigan’s results as some sort of victory. If they agree with the press and other campaigns that the results in Michigan don’t mean squat, than I don’t think it will be a story.

And what is the likelihood that Team Hillary (and perhaps Hill herself) won’t trumpet her Michigan “victory” as a big win? The odds are about as good as Hillary living up to her promise NOT to campaign for votes in Michigan’s “meaningless” Dem primary. Oh, you mean she’s actively soliciting votes from the voters of Michigan (albeit without visiting the Wolverine State)? Hmmmm. Guess it all depends on what the meaning of “in” is.

There’s a lot of discussion about this, so I’ll be surprised if “they go to the polls tomorrow and learn that” those are the facts. It’s all over the airwaves and the newspapers. I suspect right now there’s more consideration of strategic voting. I.e. whether to vote ‘uncommitted’ in order to deprive Clinton of a vote, or to vote in the Republican primary (this is being pushed by many), or just not to vote at all to lower turnout.
