that’s not the standard!

The (Greenville, SC) State reports that Former Speaker Newt Gingrich attempted to minimize the Foley Scandal by saying that Democratic sex scandals have been far worse and that Democrats have wanted to punish their offenders far less.
I don’t care what Democrats may have done. Foley’s shenanigans and Hastert’s attempt at a coverup are not the precedents I want MY PARTY to set.
Republicans should be proud to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

Thanks for saying that. The GOP often criticizes Liberals and Democrats of practicing “moral relativism”, but their immediate response when confronted with this immoral behavior is to compare it to those they consider immoral. We should do the right thing because it is the right thing to do, not because of how it compares to those we demonize. This is why I also believe that we should be setting the example for the rest of the world on humane treatment and fair trials of prisoners of war, no matter what they may be accused of (if anything). Yes, bad guys do bad things when they capture our guys, but I don’t let terrorists set the bar on how I behave.

You’re drinking the Kos kool-aid. There’s no evidence of any kind of cover-up. None. Not a bit.

This isn’t about rigtht, wrong or immorality for either Congressional party. It all boils down to politics and winning in November.
If the federalist party(Reps and Dems) cared anything about morals, then we Americans wouldn’t be looking at $80 trilion of unfunded obligations or $800 billion per year deficit spending.
This is exactly the behavior one can expect from a pack of dogs.

I’ve never been accused before of drinking the “Kos kool-aid”.
I already pointed out the actions taken by the Republican leadership that told me that this matter was handled as a political problem to be hushed, and not as a potential criminal or ethical issue: http://www.bobkrumm.com/blog/2006/10/03/censure-is-not-nearly-strong-enough/#comment-4114.
Furthermore, Dennis Hastert already has a demonstrated track record of attacking the attackers, instead of dealing seriously with serious criminal conduct by fellow congressmen: http://www.bobkrumm.com/blog/2006/05/25/unfit-for-command/
Twice is a trend. It’s time for Republicans to fire Hastert.
