your opportunity to foam at the mouth

In answer to a question about whether or not it would be right to murder Prime Minister Blair, George Galloway, a Member of Parliament, said, “Yes, it would be morally justified.”

I’m dumbfounded.  Surely, there aren’t Americans as self-loathing as Mr. Galloway.  Unfortunately, there probably are.

So here’s my challenge to the most rabid Bush-haters out there:

Why do you think that the murder of George W. Bush is justified?  And if it’s not justified, explain why Galloway is wrong?

George Galloway is wrong because murder is never morally justified; maybe the question should be re-phrased. Leaders and “War Presidents” who declare and conduct war may be lawfully (I won’t say morally because plenty of people would argue there’s no such thing as a moral killing, and who am I to say they’re wrong?) executed but only after they have been fairly tried and convicted of heinous war crimes or crimes against humanity. I don’t think any rational person, a standard of judgment common to court procedure, would be able to find Blair or Bush guilty of either beyond a reasonable doubt.

I am no supporter of the “War on Terrorism”, in Iraq, or of President Bush’s policies in general; however, I believe that any American who truly thinks that to murder him would be morally justified should be thankful that we don’t (yet) have thought police in this country and, if they are also supporters of the Patriot Act and warrantless wiretapping, should reconsider their stance on those issues.

But surely in this enlightened country there are none who truly believe that it would be morally justifiable to murder him?
