Larry Daughtrey on State Senator Douglas Henry’s apparent attempt at a tenth consecutive four-year-term:
"If he has no opposition, as seems likely . . . "

Freakin’ hilarious.

I just re-read the passage in the Daughtrey column and it now strikes me as odd.
Here is the section:Then there’s the case of Douglas Henry, the senator for life from West Nashville. Henry is running for yet another term (he’s just 79), but he’s made an unusual offer to contributors, who presumably do not include Indian tribes.
If he has no opposition, as seems likely, Henry will refund the money — with 6% interest.
Is Henry not aware of your potential candidacy? I was sure he read blogs. He seems so modern and plugged in to the Internet world.

Only the likes of Bill Hobbs would same something negative about Sen. Douglas Henry. Bob K doesn’t even talk about Sen. Henry’s character, only the issues. Maybe he has been around too long but Sen. Henry has given his life to public service. Hobbs, all you do is make witty remarks about people on the internet like a 13 year old. Very respectable.

I’m looking for the press release on what Mr. Henry hopes will be repaid to taxpayers for the years of graft and abuse by former Senator Ford. And Sundquist. And Bredesen.
Henry…well, most of our Senators…have sat by quietly for years and allowed corruption to rot our capitol. But as long as Wilder patted them on the head and kept the power and perks flowing, they all said nothing.
In my book, their are sins of ommission as well as commission. We have a Senate full of “ommission.” They failed…and continue to fail to do the right thing.

Tom,
Just to clarify, Bill Hobbs’ second and third columns are what Larry Daughtrey wrote. It was Daughtrey who called Senator Henry a “senator for life,” and who referenced campaign contributions from Indian tribes.
Bill only wrote the first sentence and the last paragraph.

It will make for a fascinating match-up, Geriatric Belle Meade vs. the Digitally Plugged In. Last time Henry had a foe the old folks supported him in droves–and they did drove to the polls! Will support from a younger and new digitally aware population cut into his base? You also have to consider Henry’s base is regularly showing up in the obits.

Ahhh, see Bob. It was the “He seems so modern and plugged in to the Internet world” comment that Hobbs used. Exactly what Sue picked up on and took even further to make fun of old people passing away.

Excuse me Tom but I was NOT making fun of old people passing away. I very legitimately believe that Mr. Henry’s base is very elderly, and has been very slowly shrinking because of that.
Just this weekend I spoke with and 80+ year old life long Belle Meade-ite –Club member et.al. –about this possible match up and that was certainly his opinion. That many of Mr. Henry’s supporters are from an old guard of elderly, socially elite is common knowledge around here. They are passing on just as one expects of 80+ year old people.
Tom, I’m sorry if you think that acknowledging and understanding the demographics involved in a political race is rude.
